Stay, run and relax with views across the Great Rift Valley

The top of the Lodge seen from the garden

A family run guest house

We created The Lodge in 2013 to give runners and visitors from all over the world the opportunity to stay and train in the running capital of the world. We pride ourselves on providing an exceptional experience for our guests at an affordable price. As your hosts, our goal is to ensure your stay is relaxing and fulfilling; we are here to offer advice, get you settled in and help with anything you need throughout your stay.

The Lodge is characterised by tranquillity, peacefulness and serenity, with breath-taking views of distant lakes and mountains. The quiet, private garden, surrounded with fruit trees, is the perfect place to relax and soak up some sun, while the living/dining area provides a delightful setting to work, study or unwind while enjoying the views across the valley.

Rooms and facilities The Lodge

Comfortable, homely and spacious.

As former professional runners we know the importance of a good night's sleep, which is why we have taken care to ensure our rooms are equipped with high quality mattresses and queen sized (4ft wide) single beds. The Lodge sleeps 12 guests in 6 spacious bedrooms, separated over two guest houses. Available for booking are five twin bedrooms containing two separate queen size beds, wardrobes, draws and a desk, and one double room with a 6ft double bed. The rooms enjoy impressive views across the private garden and over the Great Rift Valley, so you can take in the sunrise from the comfort of your own bed.

Each guest house features two spacious bathrooms, each with a solar powered hot showers (with electrical back-up), as well as a fully equipped kitchen, including four-ring gas stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle, and water filtration system. Our in-house cook will prepare lunch and dinner daily, but guests are also free to make use of the kitchen as they please, to make tea/coffee, snacks etc.

Additional facilities/items include a washing machine (which we charge a small fee for per wash), clothes line for drying clothes, multiple towels, television, outdoor seating area and outdoor chairs.

WiFi at The Lodge

Your stay at The Lodge includes WiFi with a great connection and very fast download speeds. The portable WiFi router connects to the local 4G network meaning you can take the router with you for internet access wherever you go. The download speed is more than enough to stream high quality video content, make video calls internationally and browse social media, so you can stay connected and entertained during your stay. The connection is more than strong enough to reach all bedrooms. Unlike other accommodation providers in Iten, we have opted for the fastest possible data package which provides each guest with 8GB of free, fast, data upon check-in. We are happy to arrange data top ups on request.

Food and catering during your stay

Your stay includes all your meals as standard. Your lunch and evening meal will be prepared by our in-house chef and served to you in your own dining room. Our chef uses high quality ingredients and will prepare a variety of dishes. If there is anything you particularly like/dislike then of course our chef will take that into consideration when preparing your meals. Timings of lunch and dinner can also be flexible to suit your training/activity schedule.

Breakfast ingredients will be provided, but left to our guests to prepare for themselves. At The Lodge we aim to create a homely environment and one way of doing this, is by allowing our guests to make their own breakfast when and as they please. Most of our guests are athletes and on some days they might prefer to have breakfast at 7 am, while on other days at 10 am. Or they might take a small breakfast at 6 am, before going for training, followed by a second (big) breakfast after training. It's all possible at The Lodge! As standard, we provide bread (often freshly baked in our own oven), jams/spreads, milk, eggs, fruits, cereals/porridge oats, tea and coffee. Guests are free to make use of the kitchen and ingredients provided by us throughout the day to prepare snacks and refreshments between meals.

Please note, while we do our very best to ensure our guests have all the food they need during their stay, we do not provide items of a luxury nature, such as chocolate or alcoholic beverages. Items such as these can be purchased the local shops.

Safety and privacy

Iten is a very safe, welcoming and friendly place with a very low crime rate. The local people are very courteous towards foreign guests visiting the area. The Lodge is a private house on private grounds, enclosed by a wall and gated fence. The main entrance to the property is a secure, lockable gate to which you will be provided the key upon arrival. The accommodation itself is also very secure with lockable entrances and locks on the doors of each bedroom so you can store your valuable safely.
